Girlfriends Guide to Spray Tanning

Posted on November 19th, 2018

Friends don’t let friends be pale! Gather up your gal pals because the time has come to break up with FOLP (Fear of Looking Pale). Whether you’re headed to a family gathering or Friendsgiving with the girls, bring out your inner (and outer) bronzed babe. Read on for our tips on achieving the best spray tan a girl could ask for.

When to come in for your spray tan

‘Tis the season for get-togethers, and there’s no denying we want to slay the holiday season. If your holiday soiree is taking place on a Saturday, plan to get your spray tan Friday evening. This will give you a fresh, just got back from vacay spray tan.

What to wear to your spray tan

The struggle in trying to achieve the perfect faux tan is real! Wear loose, dark clothing to avoid marks or streaks. We recommend wearing comfy cotton clothing. Sweatpants work best since it helps your legs from rubbing onto one another or touching surfaces.

What to do before your spray tan

The night before your spray tan is the best time to exfoliate and shave. Remember to wax, thread or pluck unwanted facial hair, too! Try to avoid using any lotions or moisturizers prior to your spray session to allow your skin to fully absorb the spray tan.

What to expect the day of your spray tan

No appointment is necessary for a Mystic Tan or VersaSpa spray tan at iTAN! Simply walk in for a spray tan of your choosing. If it’s your first time getting a spray tan, inform a salon consultant so they can guide you through your session.

Apply a generous amount of blending cream on your hands, especially between your fingers, and on your feet, especially between your toes, in order for your hands and feet to evenly develop with the rest of your body. The blending cream will be provided in each iTAN Spray room and acts as a barrier between you and your spray tan so certain areas of your body don’t look drastically darker than the rest.

What to expect after your spray tan

After your spray tan, we use a wipe or towel for your hands and feet. This will help take off some extra color that your feet might have absorbed. Avoid any physical activity that involves too much movement or cause you to sweat. For best results, we recommend sleeping in your tan and allowing your color to develop for up to 8 hours.

When to shower

Avoid water for at least 4-6 hours after your spray tan. Once your spray tan is exposed to water, the color will stop developing, which means you’ve hit your color plateau. Try and hold out on taking a shower for as long as possible if you’re looking to achieve your darkest spray tan.

When to touch up your spray tan

Every #iTANfan is different, but your spray tan should last five to seven days. Apply tan extender moisturizers to help your spray tan last extra long. We love the Mystic Tan Self-Tan Spray with Bronzer and the VersaSpa Bronzing Mist because they can be used to touch up color or add a layer of darkness when results begin to fade.
