Commit to Fit: Three (Easy) Fitness Goals for a Healthier 2014

Posted on January 21st, 2014

In 2013, 25% of Americans who made New Years resolutions didn’t make it past the first week, don’t become part of that statistic!

It’s Better Together

We all know how it goes. So many of us tell ourselves that in the New Year we’re going to get our butts in shape and recommit ourselves to better health. But for the majority of us, it’s easier said than done.

Problem: Motivation.

Time after time, the biggest speed bump on any road to better health is sustained motivation. Well, not anymore.

Solution: Partner up.

Find a friend who shares your aspirations and has a similar fitness level. It’ll become a win-win situation, as the two of you will share the, often tough, role of motivator. Sometimes all it takes to get us up and moving is a little help from a friend.  Let’s be honest, workouts are more fun with friends- that’s a serious bonus!

Don’t forget the importance of unwinding as well! After finishing your workout with your buddy, the two of you should head to the spa and melt away all the remaining tension in your muscles. Massage, such as the Aqua Jet Therapy system, is an amazing way to relieve stress and to increase circulation, which is just as important to your health as exercising!

Quench That Thirst!

This doesn’t mean sipping margs with your workout buddy after legs day- Give your body what it truly needs. It’s easy to forget how crucial drinking water is as part of a healthy diet, but it’s our body’s most important life source. Water helps flush toxins and transport health-promoting nutrients to keep our muscles happy and our skin looking great.

Ever wonder why you can barely move after eating that giant hamburger without stopping for a drink? Drinking one glass of water while eating meals provides digestive benefits, as well as making you feel full sooner, which promotes eating less.

If you’ve ever felt lightheaded or had blurry vision during a workout, it’s the first sign that you’re dehydrated! It’s important to take quick water breaks between each stage of your workout to ensure your body is replacing the water it’s losing through sweat.

What about sports drinks?

Many will say that sports drinks are better during a workout because they replace electrolytes lost through sweat. Although this is true, these drinks tend to be high in sugar. True experts say that if a workout is less than one hour, water is your best hydration option.

Aside from just keeping your body’s thirst quenched, it is also important to keep your skin hydrated. Often, much like with drinking water, we forget to keep our skin moisturized. This can lead to dry itchy skin. Luckily, services such as the Hydration Station can help you quench your skin’s thirst and protect you from discomfort!

Keep Your Body Guessing.

Getting bored with your repetitive workout routine?

Not feeling like you’re making the progress you should be?

Switch it up!

A workout routine can become less effective as your body becomes accustomed to the exercises, so it’s very important to continually shake it up. If you’re an elliptical junkie, hop on the treadmill (hopping on treadmills not endorsed by iTAN) and go for a jog! Change can also keep your workout routine from becoming dull and keep different muscle groups activated. Another great way to complement this change in routine is to integrate fitness alternatives such as the FIT Body Wrap, which allows you to detox and lose weight. Adding such alternatives along with making changes in your routine can get you past a plateau in your fitness to help you get to the next level.

These tips can be added to any workout routine for a healthier and better you. Stay true to your New Year’s resolutions and make 2014 a year filled with self-improvement!
