Every boss babe knows the secret to getting ahead is simply getting started. Our very own Kristina Burleson, an iTAN Franchising, Inc. franchisee, shared her experience as an entrepreneur. Together with her partners Kenny Burleson, Yelena Johnson and Kristopher Johnson, Kristina is an iTAN San Clemente franchise owner.

1. Give us an overview of how you became involved with iTAN Franchising, Inc. Which franchise locations do you currently operate?
As moms, we were looking to do something that would allow us to have control of our time with the family, and give us the ability to establish a flexible schedule once our kids are older. We knew we wanted to be in the tanning marketplace and really liked the full-service Sun Spray Spa concept created by iTAN. We currently own and operate the only Orange County location in San Clemente.

2. How does iTAN Franchising, Inc. fit your business needs?
With previous experience in the hospitality industry, my partners and I were looking for a business that was consumer-focused and specifically in the beauty and personal care market. We were also looking to be part of an organization that was high energy and always looking for ways to improve, and found iTAN.

3. How has iTAN Franchising, Inc. successfully helped you manage your franchise locations through training, marketing, etc.?
When we made the decision to open iTAN San Clemente, the franchise operated 29 locations and we were the 30th. iTAN Franchising, Inc. provides operating strategies that are proven and easily adoptable. In the beginning stages, iTAN Franchising, Inc. supplies a roadmap for salon site selection. iTAN Franchising, Inc. has full-time staff that is constantly focusing on data analytics and sharing these statistics with us franchisees in order to better capitalize on market trends and promotions.

4. What advice would you give an entrepreneur who is interested in joining the iTAN franchise?
Before joining the iTAN franchise, understand your market and trade area in order to capitalize on the best possible location. Also, realize the tanning industry is ever changing, so be conscious of the competition in your area and develop short- and long-term strategies to position yourself for success. And finally, work with the iTAN team to know and understand your growth potential from day one.

5. Overall, what do you feel has been the top key benefit of purchasing an iTAN franchise?
Partnering with a known brand like iTAN Franchising, Inc. gave us purchasing power with vendors and preferred consideration when obtaining funding for starting the business.
